"I have time to myself now and then. The matters of State do not always press upon me." He smiles.

At her next question, "Oh, there are indeed, many things most do not know. I have many talents and interests that are shared with precious few, for few can truly appreciate them."

"And alas, those that I once shared such things with have either met final death or left the city. It is a transitory existence after all."

"That is quite sad to hear. I understand how you must feel." She frowned slightly, looking away in thought. As quickly as it came the moment was gone and her face brightened again.

"Someone to share special moments and inner thoughts with is something everyone should have."

The last comment was spoken rather softly and she faltered in movement as if to stop.

"I am afraid I have let my curiosity overcome me, do forgive me if I overstepped any boundries."

He laughs politely at her apology. "If I found offence, you would know immediately, my child. I find your gentle probing... stimulating."

He sighs and looks away from her for a moment. "It is true, we all need a confidante from time to time. But there are times when our inner thoughts must remain our own."

She nods. "I have to agree that not everything should be shared. If it were, there would be nothing to make us mysterious." A wink was offered his direction.

"Prince, what was your life like, before the gift?"

He sighs as he reaches into his deep memories. "I was a Marquis, thrust into my life at an early age. I was rescued by my Sire from what would have been a very sad existence had I been left to live as a mortal."

"But I found rehabilitation and a new focus with the dark gift. And that is what I look for in my progeny as well, a chance to live in contentment and peace forever more."

"And what of you? Your story must be terribly interesting, n'est pas?"

She sighed before offering a slight shrug. "It is not as interesting as you might think. I was born to a simple family, my father thought that he was a failure because he had no sons, only three daughters. Mother died and father sold us off one by one, I was the youngest and the last to be sold. His greed of money was more important than his family."

She looked away from him as she continued, " The man that bought me was good to me, he taught me alot, sent me to learn how to be a woman and perform my job of pleasing him. I learned to dance, serve, and pretend to love someone who would never love me. When he was called off to war he sold me to the man who brought me here."

It was obvious that there was more to her story, but she stopped there and looked back at him with a half smile.

"See, being a Marquis is much more interesting."

"Interesting comes with a price, dear child. The free-est of us have little to fear, but little to lose as well. Having nothing to live for leads to a meaningless existence."

He smiles warmly and puts a hand on her forearm. "Though we all share burdens, some are heavier than others, to be sure. Your lot in your previous life has led you here, and without such a past, you would have no such future." He gestures to the air, as if to say the future is in front of her. "Rejoice in your experience, for it has brought you the greatest of gift of all, Caine's blood."

She smiles. " I am greatful for the gift, It has given me a freedom I never knew before. I only hope that I can continue to learn and grow. "

She leans closer to him and kisses his cheek.

"You are much easier to talk to than I thought you would be Prince." A soft laugh escapes her lips.

He accepts the kiss on his cold cheek.

"I am full of surprises, dear one." He smiles and pats her hand.

"Now tell me of your passions and desires. What do you love most?"

She thought a moment. "My greatest passion is dancing. As for desires, my only one is to someday find someone who wants me for who I am and nothing more. "

She looked away for a moment then met his eyes with her own. "I could give a thousand desires of the flesh, but without the emotion behind them, they are meaningless."
